Progression at GCSE A*-C including English and Mathematics

In 2005 the DfES released a new set of comparisons for GCSE A*-C which included both English and mathematics. The aim of the new comparison was to provide a better way of assessing the delivery of basic skills and to avopid schools bypassing the teaching of the basic life skills. The data is only available from 2002 to 2005 but by comparing the GCSE passes inclusive of Maths and English with those excluding Maths and English interesting trends can be discovered.

Below are the GCSE results on the basis of 5 A*-C GCSE passes including English and mathematics. These can be compared with the basic 5 A*-C GCSE passes which are here.
